Concussion Recovery from Sports and Not

As I write this, my 13 year old son continues his recovery from his first concussion suffered four weeks ago in his ice hockey game. As pediatricians, we frequently see kids with concussions – some from sports injuries and some not. Fortunately, many will make full recoveries and be able to return to their activities. Hopefully, that will be the case for my son. As much as I want to see him return to the ice (or for your child, the field, court, etc.) more importantly, I just want to see him healthy again. The Knoxville area is blessed with multiple Sports Medicine specialists that assist us with the care of your children suffering from concussion injuries, and many serve on the sidelines, courts, and fields throughout the year. As pediatricians, we are so thankful for them! This article hopefully will shed some light on some common concussion misconceptions.
